Pink Scraps

 

Scraps never fail to amaze me. I'm not that fond of pink and seldom use it. It may be the smallest pile in my stash. However, I saw an online picture that appealed, got out the pick bin, and just finished this lap quilt. I swear that scraps multiply in the dark.

Of course there are various tones, a few florals with pink in them, etc. I even used the wrong side of some that were just too bold the way they were. It finished at 59" x 61" and has a pink print backing with the same fabric on the binding. AND there is enough pink leftover to make another, likely a lap size or maybe a large baby quilt. 

However, next on the list is a panel for Basically Babies. So far, it is my favorite. It should be done in a few days. This pink one took longer because I decided to hand-stitch the binding. . . blame all those hockey games.

Btw, it hit -30C here this week, after being +7C all the week before. I keep saying, if you don't like the weather here, wait a minute! Good weather for long naps.

Granddaughter's Quilt

She wanted to be surprised, but when we chatted today on Messenger, she said she could stand it any longer, especially since she knew I finished it, so I had to hold up her quilt so she could see it. Now I can show it to everyone.

She sent me dozens of pictures of what she liked, many with water and various shades of blue. This delightful young woman is a teacher who lives in a coastal city. She loves helping people who struggle, but is also aware of her need to find a quiet place now and then. She asked for a lap quilt and told me to surprise her. I drew a scene, put her in it, and only had to buy one piece of fabric; an ombre with light to dark blue (sky and water). Each step found me clueless and asking God for wisdom and good ideas. I learned that I should do this all the time!

A Peaceful Place

This is about 60" square, backed with a lighter blue-green bubbly fabric. The binding is the same fabric as the left background trees. I didn't want thread play and make it stiff so asked the Lord for ideas to quilt it and did some free-motion never tried before. The figure represents dear GD but as I told her, it is not intended to be a perfect likeness. 

I'm very happy with this quilt and am anxious to finish the lighthouse one now on the longarm so I can make something for our son's fiancée who wants lots of flowers.

Still no snow where we are in western Canada. Just started freezing a couple of days ago. Such a lovely fall that some people are calling Hotumn. Here are some pics of a nearby walking trail taken 2-3 days ago.

 

It's a Jungle Out There

 This blog title is the name of a finish. It came out of a pile of leftovers from another top that isn't quilted yet. We have a loft decorated with an African theme but needed a lap quilt (big TV, recliner, etc.) It was fun to make. Not happy with the photo, but here it is, with a close up. Double-click to see it better.

Now I'm working on a pile of leftover floral prints, oldies but enough to make a bunch of HST with contrasting values. Not sure what will come of it, maybe just an empty scrap bin!!

Donation Quilt "Brown Angles and Squares"

This is the finished quilt from last post. It isn't very big but would go nicely on the lap of a person who gets around in a wheel chair. It is simply quilted and rather striking. The blocks were made by another EDQG member from a 2014 class by Heather Stewart in Ontario who has since retired from teaching. Her pattern is called "Angles and Squares."

I enjoyed finishing this and hope our guild can find a good home for it!

Pretty Pink Papilionini

 

I may have the Latin name wrong, but it sounds good and begins with P --- and this one is finally finished, labeled and ready to go to a good home. I'd thought I'd keep it but have nothing pink in my house except a small bit of leftover scraps. Also, when

I realized I liked the label as much as the quilt, that seemed a good reason to find a lover of pink. It is 58.5" x 64" and quilted with a Panto called "Fanciful Flyers" in the middle. I made up the border which doesn't show up with the pink variegated thread, but it was fun. Now on to the next one...

More red slab quilts and one finish!

From a small box of red scraps I made this quilt which looks far better than the photo. My hubby claimed it as soon as he saw it. Now am working on this one (below) and will make another one also, all from that box of red scraps. The three of them are lap size or larger (or will be) for big laps!

The blue sashing is not my choice. A friend convinced me to try it. I've never been a fan of red/blue together, but it does have a certain appeal. Besides, it is from the stash and I am not buying more fabric! The left two verticals are sewn, with the third ready to attach and the fourth just hanging there looking messy. I am thinking of a 5" piano key boarder with leftover reds (they multiply in the dark when no one is looking). There is enough of them, plus a bit of blue to accent or put in the corners.

The third quilt has a brown/red print ready to cut up for sashing. 

Making these slab quilts is easy and fun. I'll quilt them with a panto and they will likely go to QoV Canada.

Scott's king size quilt is done, but no photo yet. We are taking it to our church where we can hang it from a beam and get back far enough to take a picture. It will be quite a production needing two ladders, at least two men, lots of clamps and patience on my part!

Overgrowth

This one was called Floral Friendship Stars, but since I used two darks instead of a dark and a medium, the stars are pretty much hiding in it. To me, it looks more like lattice, so I changed the name to Overgrowth. This title also fits the stage my stash was in when I started this one -- way too many florals that I was afraid may never get used. It will be a lap quilt for someone, perhaps a senior or a person who just loves these colors.

I quilted it all over with leaves, which seemed to be the right thing to do. Now to the next UFO...
