The latest quilt

 A photo was sent to me from a young lady who is part of a refugee family. I'd offered to make each of them a quilt and she sent her favorite. I rather think she likes it because it reminds her of the ocean and beach.

Anyway, this is on the design wall. The bottom two rows are sewn together, the rest waiting to be stitched. 

It was so much fun to make. I had all the colors in my stash. The pattern is "Seaside Park" by Villa Rosa Designs. 

I reversed the angle so it does not draw the eye down and out the bottom right corner, made the blocks bigger (original 5.5" and mine finish to 6") which changed the size to 65" x 77" (with a border) instead of 55" x 66", which is better for a twin bed. 

I also changed the colors... the pattern was a rainbow, but these colors are more like the photo she sent me... beach with sand and the waves coming in. I have not come up with a name for it yet.

This pattern is easy. I might make a smaller version (or two) for crib quilts.

Another finish

This one was an experiment. Have you ever bought a quilting magazine because the patterns looked good, but later you looked at it and said, "What was I thinking?" -- Someone who knows not much about quilting gave me a quilting calendar last year. The first picture on January 1 was this one. I liked the quilt, but ugh, those colors...

So I grabbed some pieces out of my stash and made it in much different colors (sorry, the photos are fuzzy and the colors are a bit off). I'm still not crazy about it, but this shows the difference fabric can make. It also shows how long it can take me to make even a small project... sigh!

Below is the full version. It is about 44" square and the colors are a huge improvement, closer to the small view on the right. I still haven't given it a name (or a label).

 

Name suggestions, anyone?

These days are so filled with "responsibilities" that quilting gets shoved on the back burner. I'm in a room full of fabric, sewing machines and equipment, needles and pins, thread and patterns, and they seem to be sticking their tongues out at me.

However, I have a top done. The blocks are called shadowed squares and no triangles were cut before sewing; a rather ingenious way of making them.  The border is going to be about as wide as a block with parts of the design jutting out into it. It is designed on paper and the pieces cut. Maybe this will get finished before the end of the year... at least at the rate I'm going, it could take that long.

Oh, the quilt in the photo doesn't have a name either. Any ideas? It will likely go to a project called "Quilts of Valor" for a wounded Canadian soldier. 

I'm being pushed a bit though. My granddaughter is coming over this weekend to finalize her fabric choices for a Japanese quilt that she helped me design. So I need to get this one off the wall and into the "finished" pile so I can start hers!
