Fabric shopping? I don't think so!

We are enjoying a short vacation in Tuscany. While in Florence, it seemed a good idea to look up fabric shops. In this wonderful city, we found a few that were close by so stopped in...

You can tell by this picture that this is a posh store. I found the cottons - the lowest price was 38 Euros per meter, or about $60. Nope, not buying that, and it was very light weight, almost sheer.

We moved on. A clerk was sorting small bolts on a table. One was fine mesh like organza with colorful embroidery, very beautiful. He didn't want me to touch it... it was 600 Euros a meter (yes, you read that correctly). We looked around the store. Shirting was about €80 (one zero) but we found some lacy stuff that was €800, which is roughly $1200 a meter, more than that if measured in yards.

Obviously, finding quilters in Tuscany might be a problem... but there is scads of inspiration, not so much in the fabric store but in the centuries old buildings and their ornamentation. I am taking pictures!

More triangles

Good week for sewing -- DH on the golf course and lots of time to make 6 more triangles. We also took a day trip to Tucson and have checked out a few other places in the area. Next year we hope to come back.

It is raining here today. Bob is at the Ping factory and I am enjoying the quail that come up under our window every day to get their quota of something from the ground. Today their little top knots that normally bob with every step are soaking wet and look as if they put gel on them. I couldn't get close but if you look close you might see one in this photo.

Vacation

Early tomorrow morning, BH and I are hopping on an airplane for South Korea to visit our granddaughter. Our hotel in Seoul is supposed to have a desktop PC in the room, but if the keyboard is in Korean, you won't be hearing from me for a couple weeks! Otherwise, I will try and post some pictures of interest from South Korea.

On Vacation

I brought two quilts to bead (K-2 and K-3), my art supplies, and laptop. However the wireless service in the lovely remote place in the Rocky Mountains where we are staying offers such a weak connection that I am unable to connect. Right now, I'm in their main building plugged in direct with a cable. Besides that, it is pouring rain and I want to hibernate, not go out to post blog messages. As soon as the sun shines, I will be back (or when we go home, whatever comes first!)

BTW, the beads are looking good. Such a relaxing way to spend a rainy day. We have a spectacular view, even with the rain, and our chalet is roomy, warm and has everything but email. What more could I want!

In the Rockies

Today my husband and I are in the Rocky Mountains. The scenery is wonderful, the company good, and will certainly inspire more landscape quilts! However, our B&B does not have an Internet connection. We stopped by the local library where I'm typing a short note to say I will post Thursday (after we golf 18 holes) when we arrive home, that is if my sewing machine doesn't cry out for attention much more than I can resist!
