Still quilting. . .

No recent posts because I am making two large quilts for refugees. The queen-size needs a label and some clue where to put it to take a photo. The twin top is about half done, and required making it up as I want because the inspiration for it was not the right size. So when both are done, I'll post them. 

I've also started a EPP that has only three shapes but is a big size and likely going to take me years to finish. Guess I need to get out of the habit of only posting finished quilts!

Life is busy. We traveled to visit a granddaughter who teaches in a private academy in BC. are visiting folks, and it seems every day has something extra in it, like planting veggies (never have done that for years) and replacing a dead bush, and once again, harvesting rhubarb. Not had any in our yard for decades. Love it!

 

So be patient. I'm still making quilts -- and using up my stash! Also trying to get all of the ones I've done on line. Note sidebar. . . but the labels are not all true. Still have many to post. The last one done was #327.  Above is #163, a request from a granddaughter who at that time was enamored with Japanese culture. It was to have that Japanese Cherry Tree in the middle, but when it was done, I refused and framed it, then made the kimono to go there instead. 

A Tornado?

Finally getting a few minutes to post. Life has been incredibly busy this past few weeks. Not complaining, just explaining. But this is the latest finish. I had a pile of blue and yellow scraps and decided they would work on my dining area table. The quilt on the wall (Link here, scroll to #73) is an applique done for me sister. Before she died, she gave it back to me. I miss her so much and this quilt helps me be thankful that we were such good friends. It does not show in this picture but they sort of match colorwise.

Anyway, the one on the table is wonky log cabin blocks, plus an orphan block that was in my stash also. I had to pull a few yellows from my stash but most of this is scrap leftovers from other projects. I did the wonky thing because some of those scraps did not conform to a normal size. Also, I'm a bit wonky and it seemed the right thing to do. The pantograph for the quilting is also here to explain why I called this one "Tornado in the Lumberyard."

Next project is underway -- a queen-size in mostly purples for a lovely woman who finally made it to Canada. She was living on another continent, persecuted for her faith in Jesus, and it took several years for her paperwork to go through. Long story. She came with two daughters who are already in school and delighted to be here as well. I will post a photo when the quilt for mom and the older daughter when they are finished. I asked for favorite colors and have a pink one ready for the younger girl folded and waiting to give to her when the other two are done. 

Basically Babies

Basically Babies is an amazing charity. They make color-matched layettes to supply one year of all a new baby needs to families without resources. They started small and now have a warehouse filled with color and hundreds of donated items. This year, the are giving layettes to about 800 families.

Making quilts for them is relatively easy. I have scraps that make simple blocks or add to the panels -- which are easy to find. Backing usually takes another item from my stash, or wind up in a pieced version.

 This one is a growth chart. I added two borders; a gold narrow one and green a bit wider. It looks narrow but turned out 29 x 46" so could be a cuddle quilt if it does not get hung up to measure a growing child. I called it, "Please Help Me with my ABC's" and made it in a few hours. It is quilted using rulers and a few hearts done by freehanding around a plastic template.

There is another one on the longarm, not a growth chart but an alphabet with zoo animals. It will be here when it gets finished.

I've one more baby panel and then will start another scrap quilt -- my favorite way of making quilts.

Two more finishes

These are simple and easy. One is a panel growth chart and the other a combo of two blocks. Both used up some scraps, which makes me smile. I've another growth chart panel on the long arm. It might be done by the end of the day. It is only 11 am and only two interruptions so far!

Color is awful on this first one. It is a medium blue, not nearly as dark as this. The name, "Stuffies in Pale Moonlight" tells more about the colors and the lighter fabric. . . lots of teddy bears, etc. on it. It is 38 x 50." 

The other photo is not any better, but it is grey/black with a bit of color tossed in. it is 31 x 49" and called, "Mommy, I Can Read."

Lesson learned: Don't take pictures in artificial light. Even the excellent camera on my i-pad needs a little help (or tweaking).
