I printed the photo in grayscale and used tracing paper to play around. The repetition of stars in the quilting seems to keep the blocks as the 'main attraction' and not take over.

I've not used groovy boards yet. Tried using the laser and tracing a pattern. That seem so difficult for me. I seem to do better just drawing it freehand. Less precision but a smoother result.

Also just watched a Patsy Thompson DVD and that is an amazing help!Elsie Montgomeryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13739927333538419518noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5015443597193818506.post-24662443480781378692009-04-06T08:12:00.000-06:002009-04-06T08:12:00.000-06:00Baptist Fan would work. Let it simmer for a while and a more exciting idea will come to you. something with stitching lines across the seams ...

Again ... let it simmer ...Elaine Adairhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14664504842156046995noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5015443597193818506.post-86934644428735906902009-04-05T08:31:00.000-06:002009-04-05T08:31:00.000-06:00I would be talking to Chris if this were my quilt...I would be talking to Chris if this were my quilt -we would agree on a plan with an all over panto or free motion - something with curves and swirls to balance out the precise symmetry and angles of the stars... meandering might be too simplistic but even that is waaaaayy better than SID.

I'd head to websites that offer pantos and start browsing for ideas ...Quiltdivajuliehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15593385265961892847noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5015443597193818506.post-87248960395079434162009-04-04T23:54:00.000-06:002009-04-04T23:54:00.000-06:00Hmmmm.... not so sure if this is more inovative th...Hmmmm.... not so sure if this is more inovative than stitch in the ditch, but if I were to quilt it I think I'd do an over-all meandering motif, some soft swirls of some sort... Ok, that was probably not much help ;o)
Hugs and stichtesAnne Idahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03980121747791507415noreply@blogger.com
