Termination Dust, Hearts and Log Cabins

In Alaska, the first snow is called Termination Dust. This is the Alberta version and the view out my bedroom window this morning. Gasp and dismay - the leaves are not even off the trees!

On a happier note, this is a UFO from a class I took in 2005. The applique leaves/hearts are now fused to the border. They need to be stitched. I did the inside ones in a satin stitch, but am feeling lazy. Should I or shouldn't I just lightly zig-zag these in place? Finished is better than perfect?

The stem is sewn. It is purchased bias tape. I opened it and sewed one side with normal straight stitch, then closed it and used invisible thread in a hemstitch to catch it in place.

I'm thinking of quilting it with lines in the background that line up with the logs in the log cabin blocks. This one also needs a name, so Susan, if you are listening...

I can remember getting an early snow one year when the leaves were still on the trees. It was a beauty all of its own and there wasn't a deep frost with it either. Hopefully yours is just a teaser and not really winter hurrying in.

I would do a loose zig zag with invisible thread if it was mine.

I am watching it snow right now as I type this: big fat lazy flakes. Loveland Ski Area was the first to open this season. On the quilt: are you going to wash it a lot? If not, be lazy and just do a zigzag. MHO.

Oh, I hope it doesn't snow until Christmas or maybe never. Or at least until I retire. It is very pretty though. I think you should lightly zig-zag the edges with the same thread as the inner hearts. Good luck and I hope you post a pic of the finished product.

Three wonderful friends who tell me to take it easy and get the thing done! Thank you. I will do that. And it is well below freezing here. Can't believe it was +34 C. two weeks ago. That is hot!
