Help?

Does anyone have suggestions for quilting this star sampler? I've been told to keep it simple; stitch in the ditch. That is a tad boring. I'd love to hear something a little more innovative.

I'm one of those people who throws her hands in the air when it says "quilt as desired" but quite glad to try a new idea! Thanks!

Hmmmm.... not so sure if this is more inovative than stitch in the ditch, but if I were to quilt it I think I'd do an over-all meandering motif, some soft swirls of some sort... Ok, that was probably not much help ;o)

I would be talking to Chris if this were my quilt -we would agree on a plan with an all over panto or free motion - something with curves and swirls to balance out the precise symmetry and angles of the stars... meandering might be too simplistic but even that is waaaaayy better than SID.

I'd head to websites that offer pantos and start browsing for ideas ...

Tooooo pretty to do 'just' SIDitch. I'll bet you could do each star in a similar but different pattern, kinda radiating from center, or somewhat circulating. Let it simmer for a while and a more exciting idea will come to you. something with stitching lines across the seams ...

Again ... let it simmer ...

Baptist Fan would work. Do you have these in the groovy boards. Or an all over swirl pattern.

Good suggestions! I've stabilized with SIDitch and am going to do something like Elaine suggested. I printed the photo in grayscale and used tracing paper to play around. The repetition of stars in the quilting seems to keep the blocks as the 'main attraction' and not take over.

I've not used groovy boards yet. Tried using the laser and tracing a pattern. That seem so difficult for me. I seem to do better just drawing it freehand. Less precision but a smoother result.

Also just watched a Patsy Thompson DVD and that is an amazing help!

I realize that you don't have the boards, but Baptist Fan does seem to look especially good on sampler quilts.
